Math for Grade 2

The Grade 2 math curriculum at Kids Academy Classroom builds on foundational skills with more complex operations, measurement, data, and geometry activities. It combines lessons, worksheets, games, videos, and quizzes designed to develop confident problem solvers ready for higher-level math.

Foundations in operations with numbers within 1,000

• Understanding place value up to 1,000: ones, tens and hundreds

• Counting and comparing numbers within 1,000 to furhter develop number sense.

• Addition and subtraction fluency within 100 and extending to 1,000 using base ten blocks, standard form, regrouping and borrowing.

Applications in operations within 1,00

• Solving word problems involving sums and differences within 100 to apply concepts in practical contexts.

• Thinking deeper about addition and subtraction through problems involving unknown numbers.

• Exploring arrays and equal groups as preparation for multiplication concepts.

Foundations and applications in measuring, time and data

• Measuring and estimating length, and telling time to 10 and 5 minute mark.

• Collecting, organizing, and interpreting data with help of line plots, bar graphs and picture graphs

Geometry

• Identifying shapes and their characteristics, including sides, angles, faces and vertices.

• Exploring fractions of shapes to build an early understanding of parts and whole.
