Reading for Grade 1
Our Grade 1 Reading activities on Kids Academy Classroom are designed to strengthen foundational literacy skills, building fluency, phonics knowledge, and comprehension in an engaging way.

Distinguishing between long and short vowel sounds

Phonics
Learn vowel spelling patterns (ai, oa, ow, aw, au, igh, ee, ea, ie, silent e)
Learn the most common digraphs (-th, -wh, -sh, -ch)
Divide words into syllables
Read and choose correct inflectional endings (ing, ed)

Print concepts
Use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence
Use punctuation at the end of a sentence
Choose correct end punctuation: question, full stop, exclamation mark.
Read words in order with accuracy
