Chess for Preschool-G3

Our chess activities on Kids Academy Classroomarrow-up-right introduce young learners to the game of chess, its pieces, movements, rules, and basic strategies. Children develop early problem-solving, critical thinking, and spatial reasoning skills while having fun learning how to play chess.

Core areas covered:

Game basics

  • Chess basics

    • Kids learn facts about the game of chess and its history and get introduced to chessboard, chess pieces and their symbols.

  • Pieces: How they move and capture

    • Students learn how all the pieces move, what power and value they have in the game and how to write down their moves (chess notation).

  • Purpose of the game

    Children will learn what is check, checkmate and stalemate and what different types of check there are. They will practice checks and checkmates and the most popular checkmating patterns.

Strategies

  • Basic tactics

    Kids will learn to recognize and use chess strategies, such as fork, skewer, double check etc. The will also practice checkmates in two moves.

  • Putting it all together

    This section introduces the most typical strategies of beginning a game of chess; reviews Scholar's mate; explains the concept of trading down and analyses the Opera House Game.

By the end of our Chess Course, students should be confident in playing full games, spotting tactical opportunities, and applying beginner-level strategies to win.
